DESCRIPTION
Seeking outgoing, fun and reliable individuals for instruction of swim lessons to both children and adults. Under the direction of the Aquatic Department Manager, plan, organize and provide quality swim instruction for both children and adults.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Swim Lesson Instructor will perform all, but not limited to, the following:
- Consistently uphold all rules and regulations as set forth by the Village of Bensenville, The Water’s Edge Aquatic Center and the Illinois Swimming Pool Health Code.
- Organize and direct activities for groups of assigned students to provide high level of quality instruction.
- Ensure that no child is left behind during class instruction; all are thoroughly involved in the aquatic classroom environment.
- Help market and promote programs during special events or as directed by the Aquatic Department Manager.
- Complete and maintain records for documentation.
- Complete attendance for each class.
- Provide constructive and positive feedback to both participants and their respective guardians; both verbal and written form.
- Ability to attend in-service training sessions and meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as requested by Aquatic Management.
- Report definite or potential physical hazards and unsafe conditions immediately to the Aquatic Department Manager.
- Maintain an acceptable appearance, both in uniform and personal hygiene at all times.
- Provide consistent availability and attendance for swimmer comfort and safety.
The Water’s Edge Aquatic Center prides itself on the customer service provided to all patrons. Staff are expected to be friendly, helpful and cheerful to all pool patrons and fellow employees in the performance of duties.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- Must be at least 16 years of age (responsible 15 year olds with Work Permit permitted)
- Must be proficient in swimming
- 25 yards of Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke; 15 yards of Butterfly
- Maintain position on back for 1 minute – floating or sculling
- Tread Water for 1 minute
- Ability to relate with participants in an understanding, tactful and professional manner
- Capable and comfortable giving demonstrations or explanations to participants
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and speak in audible tones. Bending, stooping, lifting and reaching is required in this position
PREFERRED:
- Previous position in aquatics or other leadership positions preferred but not required
- Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT Certification) preferred, but not required
- First Aide and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer preferred, but not required.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred, but not required
All successful candidates must pass a standard drug test and background check.
